7月10日 11時19分  アメリカでスパイ活動を行っていたとして、ロシア人の男女１０人が逮捕された事件は、冷戦後初めてのスパイ交換という異例の政治決着が図られました。 この事件は、ニューヨークなどでロシア人の男女１０人がアメリカの核兵器に関する違法な情報収集やマネーロンダリング＝資金洗浄を行っていた疑いで逮捕・起訴されたものです。この事件で、米ロ両政府は水面下で調整を続け、この１０人と、ロシアで欧米のスパイだとして拘束されてきた軍事専門家ら４人を交換することで合意しました。これを受けて８日、ニューヨークの裁判所で行われた罪状認否の審理で、１０人はロシアのスパイであることを認めたうえで、国外追放処分を言い渡され、アメリカを離れました。一方、ロシアでこう留されてきた軍事専門家ら４人は、メドベージェフ大統領の恩赦を受けてロシアから出国しました。そして日本時間の９日夜、アメリカ司法省の報道官は、双方の身柄がオーストリアの首都ウィーンで交換されたことを明らかにしました。その後、アメリカを出国した１０人はモスクワに、ロシアを出国した４人はイギリスの空軍基地に到着したことが確認されました。このように今回の事件は、米ロの良好な関係を維持したいという両国政府の意向を受けて、逮捕から１０日余りで、冷戦後初めてのスパイ交換という異例の政治決着が図られました。 |
